Mrs. McFavorite and I saw on Chelsea Lately, of all places, that Spaceballs: The Animated Series is finally going to premier in the US. Better yet, it’s going to be this Sunday on G4. They’re going to play the original 1987 movie at 3pm ET, then follow that up with the premier episode.

Chelsea had Daphne Zuniga, Princess Vespa, on talking about the new series and her related voice-over work. No real breaking news except for the premier announcement. Reunited with Zuniga is Joan Rivers, reprising her role as Dot Matrix, the ever vigilant virginity monitor. Mel Brooks in addition to producing and co-writing the first 13 episodes will return as President Skroob and our favorite green mershendizer under 3 feet tall, Yogurt.
This series has been in production since 2005. It first debuted at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) in 2007. The original US broadcast premier scheduled for the Fall 2007 was never aired and it seemed to slip into obscurity. That was until June of this year when Canada’s Super Channel starting airing episodes. Since several clips have made it YouTube, but no full episodes that I have been able to find.
The first video is from the viral site BounceYourSpaceballs.com. Very much obsessed with the fairer sex, more specifically their “Spaceballs”, this site offers a memory/mammary-style game. There are also bios for some of the female characters and the standard wallpaper, screensaver and icons. The second video is from G4’s official page. Unfortunately they do not have much else on their site in regard to the show.
The original movie is probably Mrs. McFavorite’s and my favorite parody movie of all time. I can’t wait to see if Mel Brook’s genius has held up over the years.
May the Schwartz be with you…Slick
