Open Your Toys Cast - Episode 077: SDCC 2012! (For Reallies)

That’s right. They’re doing that again. Unfortunately this year it was without The McFavorites. Can you believe it? There was a little bit of shock from not getting on a plane Tuesday. Not having our traditional Joe’s Crab Shack pint to kick off Preview Night was a little much. However, following the show via the socials actually made me appreciate the lack of lines we would have to deal with. I think what hurt the most is missing the roar of the crowd during panels as toy fanatics are shown their first glimpse of something amazing that managed not to get leaked. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to live with all of the great toys we’re getting until next year.

Because come on, if you can’t think of at least a half of a dozen things you’re excited about you need to find a new hobby. I don’t think I said this on the show, but here are my favorite announcements from each line. For Masters this guy was killing it for me. Nostalgia will usually trump everything and Jitsu was one of my favorites as a kid. While Joe fans got the shaft once again panel-wise, fan sites got the opportunity to talk to the man with the plan, Derryl DePriest. He sounds excited for the 50th anniversary next year. He let it be known while it’s the 50th for the brand, it will still focus on ARAH and that makes me excited. For the transforming giant robot lover in me, the news that we’ll be getting the Asian Exclusives/China Imports trumped even a mechanized space dinosaur from a video game. And you know how much I love all of those things individually, let alone all in one toy. Lastly Star Wars was pretty lackluster, but again the nostalgia came through. We didn’t just get the nostalgia of a Speeder Bike that explodes, for the first time it will come with a flight stand. While I’ve got my issues with the stand itself, it’s a welcome addition to the line. All in all it was a great show. Can’t wait until next year.

Like it? I LOVE IT! I’m not a huge fan of glossy paint, I love the way you demystified the whole “repaint” thing. I don’t think I commented on the video, but I will. I can’t wait for more.

My Favorite things at SDCC 2012 was actually “Two” things.

1) The Hall of Iron Man was display at SDCC 2012! This display is by for the most impressive in my opinion. Just imagine how they all the armors to the location and the safety issue of people might try to touch of heavy armors.

Nice, I can’t believe you guys got Slick McFav and Mrs. McFav on the show! I am a huge fan of the “Open Your Toys” podcast show! Totally love this episode guys!
