Listener Feedback and Questions
- Dave Bond’s Reissue Thoughts: Reissues and knockoffs have been around for half of my collecting life. I’ve been doing this since the 90s and watched the waves of eHobby/ TRU come out with various editions. It doesn’t bug me at all. In fact, I’ve picked up a few of the odd color releases from eHobby, like the anime Astrotrain and the Japanese comic book contest black Tracks. All the power to folks who get to see G1 Transformers on the shelves of toy stores! I certainly don’t see any problems with seeing kick ass toys available to adults and children to enjoy. But I’m weird. I collect for fun and historical detail intetrests, and spend money on things knowing I can have something practically identical to it for hundreds of dollars less, because I like the details in vintage stuff. People who cry about reissues don’t really understand them. They don’t diminish values or interest in originals, as much as people love that scapegoat. I watch the rare stuff sell in private and the different tiers in groups and markets, and I know for a fact that if anything, reissues just spark people’s attention and it can cause an influx of buyers for original releases. I also don’t really care about the monetary value of toys. If I like a new release of some kind, I’ll pay MSRP. I kind of see my hobby as a dollar spent/ life lived and I believe in the investment of skillsets.
